John Burns is President of Breakaway Ventures a brand focused growth equity investment firm.
His business interests span the consumer sector but focus primarily on health, wellness, sports & fitness. John has a deep appreciation for entrepreneurs and a passion for building businesses. He has been featured in numerous publications including The Boston Globe, Inc. Magazine, and the WashingtonPost.com and is currently involved with the boards of Oath Pizza, EveryBodyFights, Spartan Race, Unreal Brands, Yasso and Nic + Zoe.
Previously, John served as CoFounder and Managing Director of Raptor Consumer Partners, a growth stage venture capital firm. Raptor’s investments include Spartan Race, Unreal Brands, Nic + Zoe, and Yasso. John joined Raptor from Highland Capital Partner’s affiliate Highland Consumer Fund, where he was a Founding Partner. Highland’s investments include such notable brands as CitySports, Pinkberry, lululemon athletica, mix1 Beverages and Guitar Center.
Prior to the Highland Consumer Fund, Mr. Burns worked at Summit Partners, a private equity and venture capital firm investing in growth stage companies.
Mr. Burns received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his M.B.A. from Babson.
Previously, Scott served as chairman and CEO of Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network. During his ten-year tenure, he transformed Zipcar from a small business into a profitable public company, growing it from $2 million to nearly $300 million in revenues through organic growth and acquisitions before taking it public in 2011. In 2011, he engineered Zipcar’s initial public offering, and in 2013 led the strategic sale of Zipcar to Avis Budget Group for approximately $500 million.
Prior to Zipcar, Scott held senior level positions at the Boeing Company (NYSE: BA), Information America and the Parthenon Group.
He serves on the boards of Alliance for Business Leadership and VISANOW. He also serves as leadership council chairman for the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center.
Scott earned his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Linda Pizzuti Henry
Linda Pizzuti Henry is the Managing Director at Boston Globe Media Partners, a cofounder of HUBweek, Director of both the John W. Henry Family Foundation and the Red Sox Foundation, a member of MassChallenge’s Board of Advisors, as well as an earlystage impact investor and television producer.
Linda worked in real estate development and investment for over 10 years, after growing up just outside of Boston, in Lynnfield, MA. Staying close to home, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from Babson College and then went on to acquire a Masters Degree from MIT in real estate development. She serves on the Board of the Boston Public Market Association as well as the MIT Visiting Committee. As an active investor in various companies, projects, productions, and real estate, Linda has a special interest in forprofit businesses that can sustainably accomplish the goals of nonprofits.
Nicole M. Stata is the Founder and Managing Director of Boston Seed Capital, LLC. From 2007 to 2010, Nicole worked as an angel investor, advisor and startup executive. Nicole founded Deploy Solutions in 1996, an awardwinning leading provider of SAAS Human Capital Management. As CEO and President, she led Deploy for eleven years through its sale to Kronos in 2007.
Before Deploy, Nicole managed the global service center for Restrac (Webhire) and started her career with Lotus Development Corporation.
Stata serves as an advisor and board member for several companies and nonprofit organizations including: TechStars Boston, Airside Mobile, Insight Performance, F.W. Olin College of Engineering, Noble and Greenough School, University of Vermont Business School, and Boston Children’s Hospital.
Alicia Syrett is the Founder and CEO of Pantegrion Capital, an angel investment vehicle focused on seed and early stage investments. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of New York Angels, as the Chairman of the Board of HeTexted, and is a member of WomenCorporateDirectors. Her past and present Advisory Board roles include Enerknol, iFunding, Cuipo, The Pitch Deck, Beauty Booked, Cissé Trading Co. and Willa. She is a frequent mentor, writer, and speaker in the startup ecosystem and tweets @AliciaSyrett.
Ms. Syrett is a recurring panelist on CNBC’s Power Pitch and has also appeared on CNBC’s Cash Crowd, MSNBC’s Your Business, Nightly Business Report (NBR) on PBS, and Fox Business’s Risk & Reward. She was named as one of the “25 Angel Investors in New York You Need to Know” by AlleyWatch and as one of Wharton' s "40 Under 40" young alumni by Wharton Magazine. She has been featured in Forbes, TechCrunch, Inc., The Huffington Post, Mashable and USA Today and also served as an Instructor with Steve Blank in his Lean Launchpad course at Columbia Business School.
Prior to founding Pantegrion, Ms. Syrett spent over 10 years in the financial industry, which included her entrepreneurial journey as the first employee and CAO of a multi-billion dollar private equity firm. She graduated early from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Economics (magna cum laude) and concentrations in Finance and Accounting. She also possesses two MBA degrees from the London Business School (with distinction) and Columbia Business School where she received Beta Gamma Sigma honors.
